Overview |
William
G. Thomas wrote, "The Civil War has done well on the World
Wide Web. Since the web's first appearance in 1993, sites devoted
to the subject have sprouted up for nearly every aspect of the
history of the was weaponry, medical treatment, soldiering,
camp life, generalship, and on and on. . . . Entering 'Civil
War' in a popular search engine, such as Google, returns
220,000 sites. Some estimates put the number of Civil War sites
at more than 600,000." (1)

The
web offers unparalleled access to information in the multiple
media formats including text, images, video and/or audio clips
used in a myriad of combinations. Web pages can engage the viewer
with interactive simulations, discussions and chats, and objects
that can be manipulated on the screen.

|
| Rather
than point individuals to thousands of sites, we will
concentrate on presenting a few sites in associated groups.
You will find links to: |
 |
Civil
War Battlefield Preservation sites; |
 |
Civil
War Round Tables; |
 |
Civil
War Reference sites; and, |
 |
Civil
War publishers. |
|
|
| You
will also find a brief abstract or review for each link. The
sites are ones we use or believe can be of value. Please remember,
the large numbers of sites dictate search engines are the best
resources for drilling into the vast amount of Civil War content
on the web. |
|
| The
number of links and resources will continue to grow as this
site develops. Be sure to let us know what you are interested
in or point us to new resources by sending email to
