The McLaws Family — William Raymond "WmR" McLaws
William Raymond "WmR" was James and Elizabeth Huguenin McLaws's second child (Lafayette's older brother). He was born on November 20, 1818 in Augusta, Georgia. William R. and Lafayette were the closest in age and attended the University of Virginia together in 1838.

William R. followed in his father's political footsteps. He worked his way up the political ladder beginning as a delegate to the 1843 State Democratic Party convention. He served as Georgia Attorney General from 1855 to 1859. He was instrumental in obtaining Lafayette's first Confederate commission.
WmR married Mary Ann Boggs in November, 1853. Mary Ann was a school teacher originally from Monmouth County, New Jersey. She taught the Huguenin children at their family plantation before moving to Augusta with William.
The couple had three children, William Raymond Jr. born in 1859. Meta Telfair followed in 1855. Lillie Huguenin "Bet" was the youngest born in 1860. William R. accepted a commission in the Confederate forces during the latter years of War. His unit served in Lafayette's command in Savannah and in the Carolinas.

Lafayette and William R. exchanged several letters before, during, and after the War. WmR provided the legal guidance and a reasoned perspective on the events that took place in Lafayette's military and civilian careers. Mary Ann died in Augusta in 1872, followed by William Raymond in Clarkesville, Georgia in 1880.(1)
